Tallahassee Apartments

There is a large abundance of apartments to pick from in Tallahassee and the surrounding area of Leon County.

The three major colleges in Tallahassee, FSU, FAMU and TCC, have created a large number of affordable apartments. The apartments are priced based on location and amenities.

Apartments for Rent
Before looking into apartments you need to prioritize what’s important. You need to make a list of “must-have’s” and “nice to have’s” to keep yourself focused. Here are some of the questions to ask yourself:

  • Location – do you need to be in walking distance of public transportation, colleges or any other destinations?
  • Size – how many bedrooms and bathrooms will you need if you have a roommate(s)?
  • Pets – do you need an apartment that accepts cats or dogs?
  • Amenities – do you need a laundry facility onsite or do you have a washer or dryer and need a hook up in the apartment? Is a pool, tennis court, fire place, cable TV, or dishwasher important to you?
  • Additional costs – what is the deposit amount to secure an apartment and and how does the contract read for the deposit to be returned? What is the average utility bill for your size apartment?
  • Apartment Contract – read it over carefully before signing it. How do you get a deposit back? Are there any penalties for apartment problems (stained carpet, broken appliances, etc)? Who is responsible for pest control and repair to the apartment? Do all roommate names go on the contract? If so, what if your roommate doesn’t pay his/her share of the apartment? What are the apartment building management obligations?
  • Inspect the Apartment – before signing the contract or moving into the apartment, have a walk through with the management company to inspect the apartment for any problems such as stained carpet, broken appliances, broken light fixtures, condition of appliances, and broken cabinets, counter tops or tile in the kitchen or bathroom.

Finding a great and affordable apartment in Tallahassee takes time. Writing down your priorities will speed up the apartment hunting time and keep you focused on what’s important.
